چکیده

We calculate the leading order anomalous dimension of the transversity structure function directly using three different methods, the local light–cone expansion in the forward case, the non–forward case, and the short–distance expansion of the forward Compton amplitude. Our results agree with the original calculation by Artru and Mekhfi [Z. Phys. 45 (1990) 669], which has been doubted recently. We also comment on the next-to-leading order anomalous dimension. We present a calculation of the two-loop anomalous dimension for the transversity distribution h1(x,Q ), γ n , in the MS scheme of the dimensional regularization. Due to the chiral-odd nature, h1 does not mix with the gluon distributions, and thus our result is the same for the flavor-singlet and nonsinglet distributions. At small n (moment of h1), γ h(1) n is significantly larger than γ n (the...

On the Qcd Evolution of the Transversity Distribution

The QCD evolution of the transversity distributions is investigated and compared to that of the helicity distributions. It is shown that they differ largely in the small–x region. It is also proved that the evolution preserves Soffer’s inequality among the three leading–twist distribution functions. Also at II Facoltà di Scienze MFN, 15100 Alessandria, Italy. The transversity distribution, orig...

Spin Physics with Spin-0 Hadrons *

We discuss various azimuthal asymmetries in semi-inclusive DIS and e + e − → h 1 h 2 X which involve chiral odd quantities like the transversity distribution h 1 and a fragmentation function H ⊥ 1. For the fragmentation described by H ⊥ 1 azimuthal angular dependence has to be measured, but no polarization vector of a final state hadron. We present first results on asymmetries including the ele...

On the anomalous dimension for the transversity distribution

In the Drell-Yan process a quark-antiquark pair is annihilated to a virtual photon, which produces lepton pairs. The corresponding cross section contains a contribution from quarks of different chirality: a quark originating from one nucleon may return to this nucleon in the squared scattering amplitude with its chirality flipped. This is possible because the intermediate photon does not rememb...
